Consolidation Consumer Debt Review of 'Ecological Debt', Andrew Simms, Pluto 12.99
Once this denial is formally made to hold that the Incarnation is either impossible, unhistorical, or unbelievable, the religious or philosophic position built on this denial must explain itself and hold together its own believers following on the consequences of this denial. The world and our destiny have to be explained in another manner. Do such explanations work It is these alternative explanations that have become politically powerful and conspire against any serious consideration of the Incarnation as the essential doctrine that teaches the whole truth about man.
Debt Settlement The publication of this book is extremely timely, coming as it does as the effects of climate change are having devastating consequences in the Southern states of the US. At the same time scientists are organising to put pressure on their governments to take prompt action to combat the effects of climate change.
Most people have heard the term Blacklisting but few consumers understand the sequence of events that will lead to, and result in, their being listed. When it becomes impossible to service all or any of your debts your slow payments will raise a flag on the computer screens of most creditors and lending organisations. This flag tells them to give you a call and gently remind you of your obligations. In the typical fashion of denial, commit to making payments on time even though they know that theres little or no spare money coming in the door.
Your Debts and Debt Collectors You are responsible for your debts. If you fall behind in paying your creditors or an error is made on your account, you may be contacted by a "debt collector." A debt collector is any person, other than the creditor, who regularly collects debts owed to others. This includes lawyers who collect debts on a regular basis. You have the right to be treated fairly by debt collectors.
Consolidation Debt Service The Kyoto protocol was the tame attempt to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases going into the environment. Yet by refusing to sign it George Bush effectively disregarded the concerns of the rest of the world. This is even more devastating since with only 4 percent of the world's population the US produces 25 percent of the world's pollution. This book by Andrew Simms describes how huge the problem is. He was one of the organisers of the Jubilee 2000 debt release scheme and is on the board of Greenpeace UK.
Consolidation Debt Online Simms points out that it is the poorest people of the world who suffer most from the effects of climate change. The term 'ecological debt' is used to describe the way richer countries use disproportionately more of the world's resources than poorer ones. He argues that rather than concentrate on the financial debt that the poorer countries owe to the richer ones we should instead be talking about the ecological debt that the richer countries owe to the poorer countries.
Debt Problem He gives a good explanation of the problems of global warming and the lack of any solutions from the world's ruling classes. At best their response is piecemeal, and at worst - as in the case of the US - they deny that any problem exists at all. He shows that the possible effects of burning fossil fuels have been known for over 150 years and yet, even today, we have scientists who argue that the effects of global warming on climate change have yet to be proved. Yet the effects of climate change are already destroying countries like Tuvalu in the South Pacific, where the islands are being eroded away and plans are being made to evacuate the whole population. He quotes Norman Myers from Oxford University who warns that global warming could create over 150 million refugees by 2050.
Advice Debt The one weakness with the book is the solutions put forward. Simms argues that people should change their lifestyles, and poorer countries should take the richer ones to court to sue for damages. Unfortunately there is little mention of the movements that we have seen developing over the last few years that have started taking up the issue of climate change in the same way that they have taken up the questions of war, poverty and the whole neo-liberal agenda. Despite that, there is much in this book to recommend to those who are concerned about the environmental disaster that we face today.
