Back in November, I wrote about documentation files, one three broad groups of files found in most people s homes and offices. Documentation files, as their name suggests, document something: the events, major and routine, in your personal life or your business operations. I listed common categories for personal documentation, including certificates for major life events, home and car purchase paperwork, banking and investment materials, and documents related to your health, education and employment. card credit debt elimination

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then an illustrative example may be worth almost that much. With this in mind, let me share with you what can be found in my family s documentation files. Our categories are: Official Documents, Health History, Home Auto, Insurance, Money Matters, Credit Card Statements and Receipts, Manuals Warranties, Education, and Current Taxes. These are all live documents, subject to annual use or more, and so they are stored in two full-size file drawers at my central work station in the kitchen. The top drawer contains the most heavily trafficked categories: Taxes, credit card statements and receipts, manuals and warranties, and education. This week, I will describe what s in the top drawer. Tune in next week for the bottom drawer! Taxes There is a hanging file folder for 2007 and one for 2008. Both contain manila folders for Forms (pay stubs and official forms like W-2s and 1099s), Medical, Charity and Education (our three biggest deductions besides mortgage interest), bank statements, and one folder for each wage-earning child. As soon as I file our 2007 returns, I will move the 2007 folders to the archives in a more distant room. Credit Cards and Receipts

This hanging folder contains four manila folders. One contains a year s worth of major credit card statements. Each time I file the statement, I shred its counterpart from one year ago. I keep receipts attached to their statements. A second folder contains a year s worth of store credit card statements, which get treated the same way. A third contains receipts I want to keep permanently, mostly for big-ticket items. The fourth folder contains the most recent landline and wireless phone bills, cable/internet bill, and statements for computer bills. debt loan student

Manuals and Warranties

There are three manila subfolders in this hanging folder: A-F, G-P and Q-Z. I m rethinking this file category, because right now it contains household appliances and equipment, but computer manuals and warranties are scattered in several areas of our downstairs. I would like to have these in a central spot where they are still easy to consult when computer glitches arise. I ll let you know what I come up with. credit debt services

Education

Here you ll find one manila folder for each child, containing report cards, school policy statements and announcements, tuition receipts and financial aid applications for this year only. As soon as this school year is over, I ll purge these folders, keeping only the final report card and any other essential documents. consolidation debt loan online
